Maybe you’re feeling energized and hopeful about America after celebrating July 4th; maybe you felt disconnected from showy celebrations of pride in the USA. In either case, pushing this country to live up to its stated ideals is one of the most patriotic things you can do. This week, take a moment to acknowledge some modern-day American heroes and think about how they point a way forward.
This 4th of July, Be a Health Care Gadfly
Before taking office, the President promised that “nobody is going to be dying on the streets” for want of health care. But his tune has changed dramatically. Instead of “repealing and replacing” the Affordable Care Act, Trump tweeted that the Senate should repeal Obamacare immediately, worrying about a replacement later. This 4th of July, do your patriotic duty and fight for Americans’ health.
Pride is for Everyone

With #PrideMonth coming to a close, and most of the celebrations, protests, and parties concluded, we don’t want to miss the chance to talk about LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Queer, and Intersex) rights. Today we’ll focus on recent state and national-level actions that restrict the rights, and endanger the safety, of trans* people.
