Thought you had to wait until 2020 for momentous elections? Not with Virginia’s elections this November 5th. Every seat is up for grabs in both the Virginia State Senate and the House of Delegates (the state equivalent of the House of Representatives). Currently, Republicans have an extremely thin majority in both the VA House and the VA Senate. Democratic majorities would mean not only that progressive legislation could become law (since the governor is also a Democrat), but would mean that Republicans wouldn’t be able to gerrymander the voting maps that will be drawn in 2021 and used through 2030.
