As 2025 winds to a close, much news continues to be terrible. For all those worldwide who have been touched by tragedy this year, big or small, our hearts are with you. With so many directions we could go in for this last MCW issue of the year, we wanted to take a moment for us to focus on the beauty and goodness still in this world. Fill your cup and nourish your community with kindness in this season.

In recent weeks, the Trump administration has further hollowed out the Department of Education, spreading many of its functions piecemeal among other agencies. These moves could disproportionately harm our most vulnerable learners, including poor and working-class children, children with disabilities, and multilingual learners.

The U.S. military is not a political weapon. It’s not a domestic police force. And it’s not above the law. Yet today, troops are being deployed into U.S. cities—unconstiutionally, immorally, and without any meaningful oversight—while our armed forces also carry out deadly and potentially illegal violence overseas.
