On Monday, Trump reversed long-standing U.S. foreign policy and moved our embassy to Jerusalem, which is contested in the 70-year Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Meanwhile in Gaza, reacting to Palestinian protests and attempts to cross the fence into Israel, the Israel Defense Forces fired live ammunition into the crowds, killing 58 people and wounding thousands, including 17 marked medical personnel.

Bailing Out Mama

Last year in honor of Mother’s Day, we asked you to support Mama’s Bail Out Day, an initiative to post bail for incarcerated black women held in pretrial detention. Now called National Black Mama’s Bail Out Day, this Mother’s Day initiative has become an annual one, and we’ll be supporting it annually at MCW as well. 

The money bail system is broken, serving as a debtor’s prison for individuals accused of low-level offenses like traffic violations and loitering. This is something New JerseyAlaskaAtlanta, and Philadelphia lawmakers have realized. In participating in National Black Mama’s Bail Out Day, you’re not only helping mothers, you’re participating in the growing movement to end money bail.
