Remember this MCW edition on proposed tax reform? This and next week, Republican leaders are doing their best to hurry along their tax plan, benefitting the ultra-wealthy (including Trump himself) and potentially raising taxes on 7.9 million taxpayers who make under $100,000 a year. Only one Republican senator has come out against this tax bill, and it’s time to step up pressure on our elected officials to the intensity we had against ACA repeal.
Think Local, Act Local

After last week’s victories for progressive candidates in the Virginia General Assembly and beyond, aren’t you feeling inspired? It really does make a difference to focus on state and local races. State legislatures decide on, e.g., voter registration requirements, Congressional district boundaries, Medicaid expansion plans, anti-trans “bathroom bills,” and whether gun regulations should be more or less restrictive. Local officials are in charge of schools, parks, zoning decisions, and much more. Sheriffs and prosecutors—elected positions in most places—have the power to determine whether your community is a safe and just place for all residents, particularly people of color and undocumented folks.
Resist. Persist. Win.

Do a happy dance, because some incredible things happened on Tuesday. And you were a part of those incredible things. The momentum for Tuesday’s victories for progressive candidates was built by the hard work of the grassroots for many months. By showing up to protests and town hall meetings, making calls, sending letters and faxes, donating to local candidates, engaging in the issues, and getting out the vote, you were a part of the movement that made it all possible.
